Diesel decreased by 3.08% from US$751.15 per cubic metre to US$728.03 per cubic metre while kerosene decreased by 1.17% from US$727.00 per cubic metre to US$718.51 per cubic metre.

One example is a bogus Star newspaper front page claiming that Ruto will support former president Uhuru Kenyatta for the UN secretary general post in 2026. An image of what appears to be the front page of Kenya’s Star newspaper has been posted online with the headline: “Ruto to endorse Uhuru for UN Sec Gen 2026.”The front page is dated 5 March 2024 and features a picture of Kenya’s former president Uhuru Kenyatta shaking hands with his successor, William Ruto. The front page has also been posted on Facebook and X (formerly Twitter) here, here, here, here, here, here and here. Kenyatta was Kenya’s fourth president, serving from 2013 to 2022. The 2026 selection process is still a long way off, but is this a legitimate front page from the Star newspaper?

Acting magistrate Stanley Jacobs, who presided over and ultimately kicked out the Investigating Directorate's (ID) multimillion-rand corruption case against former Eskom executive Matshela Koko and others, allegedly failed to disclose his own business dealings with the power utility. A News24 investigation can reveal that Jacobs is a director and shareholder of a company named BEP African Consulting; a company first registered in 2000. He resigned as a director in 2001 and was reappointed in 2008 and, according to company records, has remained a director to date. According to internal Eskom accounting records News24 first obtained as part of The Eskom Files investigation, BEP was paid R14.3 million between December 2011 and July 2016 – a time that Koko and another of his co-accused, Frans Sithole, held senior positions at the power utility.

He said some 42,500 officers would be affected by the transfers which he termed as inevitable. “The government has decided to transfer all National Police Service officers who have stayed for more than three years in one station. Some 42,500 officers will be transferred by Wednesday next week by all means possible,” Kindiki said during a security review forum in Ol Kalou, Nyandarua county. In October last year, Kindiki told the Senate that the National Police Service had been given two months to facilitate the transfers. Meanwhile, he said for officers doing special assignments, the provision of a year-long maximum service at a duty station given would be enforced.
