The most recent fatalities occurred in Rutsiro district in western Rwanda, where two individuals were killed by a landslide following heavy rains early Tuesday. The heavy rains have also caused destruction to property, including houses, crops and road infrastructure in various parts of the country. The Rwanda Meteorology Agency warned on Monday that several parts of Rwanda would experience heavy rains in the first 10 days of May. Last May, floods and landslides struck western and northern Rwanda, resulting in the death of 135 people.

Woman dies after building collapses in Kirinyaga following heavy rainsA middle-aged woman has died after a four-storey building under construction in Karia village, Kirinyaga County, collapsed during the night following heavy rains. Police said the entire building collapsed and partially destroyed a semi-permanent house nearby where the woman was sleeping, killing her on the spot. The deceased’s two children, aged 16 and 10, who were sleeping in a separate room, survived the ordeal. A senior police officer who was found dead in a hotel in Washington DC while on a mission to plan the deployment of Kenyan police in Haiti was Friday buried at his home in Keroka, Nyamira County.
