General News of Tuesday, 13 April 2021Source: www.ghanaweb.comAchimota School has come under new fire from a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Ghana who is accusing the school of being a factory for miseducation. According to him, the refusal of Achimota School to admit students with dreadlocks showed how as Africans: “we denigrate our own but treat white people differently”. “The same people who went to this school and are taught to worship an imaginary white man – if that exact same imaginary white man came there and said, ‘I want to go to school,’ would they ask this imaginary white man that they pray to every Sunday, ‘You have to cut this bushy hair that you have? That’s going to give them miseducation and anti-education,” he added. Authorities at Achimota School insisted that some first-year students cut off their dreadlocks before they would be granted admission to the school, citing their internal regulations and standards.

Even his brother Dr Kwame Addo Kufuor never supported him but he [Kufuor] was not bothered that his own blood brother was not supporting him. She continued: “After [President] Kufuor had chosen his Ministers, he then forwarded the names of his appointees to the party’s Council of Elders. Today, all those who did not support the candidature of President Akufo-Addo have become enemies in the party. “If as President, JA Kufuor had behaved the way Akufo-Addo is behaving, then Akufo-Addo would not have had an appointment in his administration. These comments from the lady made the former president call into the show on Neat FM to express his displeasure.

General News of Tuesday, 13 April 2021Source: www.ghanaweb.comThe current power challenges the country is facing is largely due to failure to invest in power transmission systems after the country successfully ramped up power generation years back. According to Benjamin Boakye who is Executive Director of the Africa Centre for Energy Policy, ACEP, after the Mahama-era power outages (2011 – 2015), Ghana had managed to scale the power generation barrier but authorities took their eyes off the issue of power transmission. The energy expert, speaking on Citi TV’s Point of View program monitored by GhanaWeb, emphasized the need for government to consider the power system as a chain and to address its challenges holistically. Around 2014 when we had the problem, power consumption was barely 2,000 MW, between 1800 – 2000 MW, that was enough for the transmission system to manage. That has proven to be too much energy for the transmission system to wheel to ECG and subsequently the consumer.

Business News of Tuesday, 13 April 2021Source: www.ghanaweb.comExecutive Director for the Africa Center for Energy Policy, ACEP, has disclosed that Ghana is currently losing US$2.5 billion as a result of the failure of government to fully utilize capacitor banks amid the current power crisis. According to Benjamin Boakye who was speaking on Citi FM’s Point of View program on Monday evening monitored by GhanaWeb, aside the financial savings that government could make, there was also an element of power that could be saved with full utilization of capacitor banks. “The capacitor bank regulates (that) voltage to ensure that when the demand is rising, it is producing enough power... it provides the needed voltage when people turn on their equipment. "What that means simply is that by not having those capacitor banks functional, we are losing about 2.5 million dollars of revenue every single month,” adding that according to current prices, a new capacitor bank on the market costs around US$10 million. The capacitor banks essentially are system infrastructure that allows an operator to regulate electrical voltage because people are plugging into the electricity system and operators are not able to know who is coming on to use what.

"It is not true that mackerel replaced eggs in the National Approved Menu, thereby affecting local poultry farmers," he explained. Kofi Asare had alleged that NAFCO had contracted a company by name Lamens Ventures to "supply imported Chinese mackerel to all SHS in Ghana." "There has not been any policy that compels SHS not to buy eggs. The mackerel and eggs are not mutually exclusive. Schools can buy eggs if they so wish, in addition to the mackerel supplied by NAFCO," he explained.
