According to Kunbuor, who identifies himself as a senior cadre, Rawlings had invited him and other leading members to his house and complained about the divided front of the National Democratic Congress’ cadres. Kunbuor is however convinced that splinters are largely concentrated in the capital: “The cadres have started splintering into the United Cadres front, Umbrella Cadres Front etc. “Before Jerry Rawlings died, he had invited a number of us including Dan Abodakpi that, look, put these cadres together, I am not comfortable with these splinter groups. We had been working at that for almost a year and a half before he went,” he told show host Umaru Sanda Amadu. A recent meeting by a cadre group in Tema has been criticized by a section of the party’s leadership given the critical outcomes of the said meeting.

An analysis of the list shows that 28 out of the 39 nominees were new entrants into the ministerial field. The vetting of these nominees will be top of the agenda of the Appointments Committee of Parliament when the House resumes sitting. The list also shows a heavy concentration of Members of Parliament expected to serve as deputy ministers, with as many as 34 of them being MPs and only five non-MPs. Finance and Economic Planning Minister Ken Ofori-Atta was the last minister-nominee to appear before Parliament’s Appointments Committee on March 26.

Because people will be saying that so did you just enter politics to end at a particular level? “Every politician is to reach the ultimate but I have never consciously put mechanisms in place and done things to even become a minister,” he stressed.

The government should continue to put in place stringent measures to control illegal mining activities that polluted water bodies and strengthen sanctions on illegal mining (galamsey) as well as inappropriate mining operations in the country. The statement however, urged the government to go beyond the consultations and strengthen measures to stop the menace, which was getting out of hand. It said the pollution of the water bodies was not carried out by illegal miners alone but also those who had permits to mine, but not following the laid down guidelines and regulations. The organization appealed to the government to pursue without any fear or favour, the whereabouts of the tailings of the small scale miners, as part of efforts to protect the water bodies.

One of such cases that have been grinding for so long in our courts is the popular one of the killing of the late Major Maxwell Mahama at Denkyira-Obuasi in the Central region in 2017. The late Major was on duty at Denkyira-Obuasi in the Central Region, when, on May 29, 2017, some residents allegedly mistook him for an armed robber and lynched him. This exercise, according to a statement by the NCA, “forms part of a continuous monitoring exercise conducted on various satellite free-to-air television platforms using the Broadcast Monitoring System (BMS) and the Radio Spectrum Monitoring System (RSMS).”The statement further stated that the monitoring exercise revealed that some television channels in the country were operating without valid NCA authorizations. “As a result, 49 channels have been identified to be operating without valid authorizations from the Authority and is being shut down accordingly,” the statement added. Among these TV stations are Thunder TV, Ice1 TV, Cash TV, Lion TV, Kwaku Bonsam TV, Apple TV, Iron TV, Abapa TV, Serwaa TV, Face TV, NTV, Nazareth TV among many other ones. Here’s the full list:
