In a statement, Spokesman for the Health Ministry Dr Khaled Megahed said eight patients have died from the virus over the past 24 hours, raising the death toll to 16,465. As many as 801patients were discharged from isolation hospitals after receiving necessary medical care, taking the number of recovered cases to 225,879 so far, the spokesman said. Egypt successfully is past a third wave of the pandemic, reporting daily coronavirus counts that are less than 100 for the first time since October last year.

Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed announced the completion of the second filling of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), stressing that the step will not harm downstream countries, in reference to Egypt and Sudan. Ahmed published on his Twitter account that the second filling of the Renaissance Dam took place on July 20, and that Ethiopia filled the dam with caution during the rainy season. Member of the Ethiopian negotiating team in the GERD file Yilma Selechel said on Wednesday that the dam’s second filling “removed all ambiguities raised by Egypt and Sudan regarding the impact of the dam on downstream countries.”Selechel added that completing the second filling is a great achievement and proves wrong those who doubted that Ethiopia could successfully fill the dam. On Monday, Ethiopia announced that it had completed the dam’s second filling, reassuring Egypt and Sudan that the dam’s operation would not disrupt water flow to the two countries. Meanwhile, the Egyptian media reported that the second filling was a failure based on Ethiopian plans, while Sudanese authorities announced their rejection of Ethiopia’s unilateral measures and the policy of imposing a fait accompli.

Minister of International Cooperation Rania al-Mashat praised Egypt’s ranking on the Economist magazine’s Global Normalcy Index, which tracks the global return to pre-pandemic life. Mashat stated – in a message on social media – that Egypt came in fourth among ten countries that showed resilience against coronavirus pandemic, according to the index. The index includes 50 of the largest economies in the world, representing 90 percent of the world’s gross domestic product. CAIRO – 22 July 2021: Member of Hospitality Establishments Chamber Hisham al-Shaer told Al Watan newspaper Thursday that the occupancy rate of Alexandria and North Coast hotels during Eid Al Adha is 95 percent of the maximum 70 percent occupancy rate designated by the government because of COVID-19. Shaer elaborated that the great majority of customers at the time are Egyptians and Arabs, and that such high occupancy rate is estimated to continue until the end of August. He further added that some hotels have reached the maximum occupancy rate already. The businessman pointed out that the North Coast succeeded in becoming the second favorite Egyptian destination for Arab tourists after Cairo. Blinken and Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) President Félix Tshisekedi discussed the importance of reducing the conflict between Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia over the controversial Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), according to a statement by the US Department of State on Wednesday evening. Blinken “emphasized the importance of the African Union’s role in reducing conflict and mediating the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam dispute. This comes despite Egyptian and Sudanese rejection of the second filling of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), which Ethiopia builds on the Blue Nile, unless the three countries reach a legally binding agreement on the dam. Egypt’s Health Ministry on Wednesday confirmed 49 new coronavirus cases, bringing the country’s total number of confirmed cases up to 283,862. The total number of COVID-19-related deaths has now reached 16,465 nationwide, after the ministry announced eight deaths. And 801 patients were discharged from quarantine at isolation hospitals, raising Egypt’s total number of fully-recovered cases to 225,869. Madbouly announced at the beginning of June that 2.5 million citizens have received a vaccine against COVID-19, out of Egypt’s population of 104 million. Egypt’s Prime Minister added that Egypt has also produced one million doses of coronavirus vaccines at state-owned Vacsera thus far.
