Egypt’s Health Ministry on Saturday confirmed 38 new coronavirus cases, bringing the country’s total up to 283,985. The total tally of COVID-19-related deaths has now reached 16,481 nationwide, after the ministry announced four more. And 422 patients were discharged from quarantine at isolation hospitals, raising Egypt’s total number of fully-recovered cases to 227,490. Madbouly announced at the beginning of June that 2.5 million citizens have received a vaccine against COVID-19, out of Egypt’s population of 104 million. Egypt’s Prime Minister added that Egypt has also produced one million doses of coronavirus vaccines thus far.

CAIRO – 25 July 2021: The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE), on behalf of the Ministry of Finance, is set to issue LE 22 billion in treasury bills and bonds on Sunday, July 25. The T-bills were offered in two installments, with the first valued at LE 5.5 billion with a 182-day term, and the second worth LE 14.5 billion with a 364-day term. As for T-bonds, the CBE offers them at LE 2 billion with a 7-year term. For the current fiscal year, the budget deficit is estimated to record 6.6 percent of gross domestic product (GDP), planned by the ministry to be financed through treasury bills and bonds and through international and Arab loans. The Monetary Policy Committee of the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) decided Thursday, June 17, to keep the overnight deposit rate, overnight lending rate, and the rate of the main operation unchanged at 8.25 percent, 9.25 percent, and 8.75 percent, respectively.

Argentina rose to the second place of the group standings, behind Australia, which led the group with 3 points, while Egypt fell to fourth place behind Spain with one point for each team. The Pharaohs started with nine players who participated in the main game against Spain, along with Ammar Hamdi and Salah Mohsen, who took the place of Emam Ashour and Taher Mohamed. Soon, Australia will play Spain in the same group. While in the last round, Egypt will play against Australia at 1 pm on Wednesday, and Argentina will face Spain.

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi ordered that the “Ahl al-Bayt” (family of the Islamic prophet Muhammad) shrines across Egypt be developed in an integrated manner including the inner halls of mosques and the richly elegant architectural decorations therein. Sisi on Saturday also instructed further development of all roads, squares and facilities surrounding and leading to these sites. This came during the President’s meeting with the Chairman of the Engineering Authority of the Armed Forces, Major General Ehab al-Far, the Assistant Head of the Engineering Authority for Road Designs Brigadier Abdul Aziz al-Fiqi. The meeting reviewed the progress of work to restore and renovate these shrines, especially at the al-Sayyida Nafisa Mosque, Sayyida Zainab and Sayyidina al-Hussein. The meeting also dealt with the progress of work in several national construction projects, especially road and axes projects, including the development of the Ismailia Agricultural Road east of the Ismailia Canal from the Ring Road to the Middle Ring Road.

World number one Istvan Peni of Hungary came fifth, while Russian Vladimir Maslennikov, who won the bronze in Rio, finished eighth. The 52-year-old, who won the 25-metre pistol gold at the 1988 Seoul Games, did not get to the final and finished 31st. TOKYO (Reuters) -Yuto Horigome of Japan claimed the first Olympic gold medal in skateboarding after recovering his composure with high-scoring tricks in the final rounds held in his hometown of Tokyo on Sunday. In a nail-biting final, Horigome stumbled through the two initial runs, but regained his signature cool in landing four of the five final tricks, earning 9.50 for a nollie backside 270. While Eaton and other competitors bobbed their heads to their Airpods, Horigome remained focused through the finals. At one point after he tripped during his two runs, a frustrated Horigome put his head in his hands. Despite the Olympic approval, skateboarding is still seen as a public nuisance and street skaters are often chased off property by police in Japan.

The Ministry of Education in Egypt expressed its condolences over the death of student Manar Mohamed Abdel-Baqi at the Nasr Abdel Ghafour Secondary School Committee in Menoufia Governorate, just before the start of the physics exam on Saturday morning. Final year high school students resumed exams on Saturday after five days of the Eid al-Adha holiday. Egypt’s high school exams started on July 10th this year amid strict COVID-19 precautionary measures. A total of 649,387 students are taking the high school exams. The Egyptian government announced in June that exams this year for high school students will be conducted with both paper and electronic systems to ensure that students do not encounter any problems.

For the second year in a row the world-famous Niagara Falls has lit up in the colors of the Egyptian flag on the occasion of Egypt’s National Day, the July 23 Revolution. The event comes as part of an initiative by the Egyptian Embassy in Canada. Many members of the Canadian-Egyptian community participated in this unique event. The embassy invited them to share the moment with friends and family and encouraged taking photos to be sent them to the Egyptian Embassy to post online. The Egyptian Embassy in Canada organized many virtual and physical events throughout July to celebrate both the Egyptian National Day and the Egyptian Heritage Month, observed in July of each year in Canada.

Russian flights between Moscow and the Egyptian resort cities of Hurghada and Sharm el-Sheikh will resume on August 9, the Russian News Agency Tass announced Saturday. “From August 9, the number of flights to Europe will be increased, with Moscow-Hurghada and Moscow-Sharm el-Sheikh flights adding up to five flights per week for every route,” the Russian anti-coronavirus crisis center said in a Friday statement. Egypt’s Minister of Local Development Mahmoud Sharawy assured Friday that fares for mass transit, microbuses and taxi cars will not be raised following the increase in gasoline prices from the Spontaneous Pricing Committee for Petroleum Products. The selling price of gasoline products of all three types was adjusted as of Friday morning, becoming LE6.75 per liter for gasoline 80, eight LE per liter for gasoline 92, and nine LE per liter for gasoline 95. And the selling price for diesel was also fixed at LE6.75 per lite and at LE3,900 per ton for the industrial sector. He also ordered the Operations Room and Crisis Management in the ministry to continuously follow up with the operation rooms in the governorates to stabilize the prices of the ride fares across the nation. The Minister called on citizens to file complaint regarding any unauthorized increase in the ride fares on this Facebook page , hotline number 15330 and the ministry’s e-mail.
