The Sudanese army on Friday said that it seized control of the army’s general command in central Khartoum after seven days of clashes with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). Video clips released by the Sudanese army on Friday, showed a Sudanese army force celebrating in front of the main headquarters of the general command. The RSF’s website, meanwhile, posted video clips showing its soldiers celebrating Eid Al-Fitr from inside the buildings of the National Radio and Television Corporation in Omdurman, and its control of a Sudanese army camp in the Al-Bagair area. No accurate statistics are available on the number of victims of armed clashes in Khartoum and other Sudanese cities. Sudan has been witnessing armed clashes between the Sudanese army and the RSF in Khartoum and other areas since April 15, with the two sides accusing each other of initiating the conflict.

The army spokesperson indicated that on Wednesday, three Egyptian transport evacuated the first batch of Egyptian troops, through three successive flights to an Egyptian military base in Cairo. “On this morning of Thursday 20 April and in coordination with concerned Sudanese parties and friendly and brotherly countries as well as the International Committee of the Red Cross, the secure arrival of all remaining Egyptian to the Embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt was accomplished in preparation for evacuating them from Sudan upon stabilisation of the situation and availability of adequate security conditions back to the homeland.”The statement concluded that the“Egyptian Armed Forces confirms that all Egyptian troops who returned to the homeland or those who are at the Egyptian embassy in Khartoum are well and in good health.”Clashes between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) erupted on April 15 and have spread in many parts of Sudan's capital city Khartoum and other areas outside the capital. UN agencies on Thursday expressed concern over the impact of fighting on civilians in Sudan, where the humanitarian situation was already dire. The UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) said at least nine children were reportedly killed in the fighting and more than 50 children were injured. UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell said the perilous security situation across Sudan makes it very difficult to collect and verify the information. But UNICEF is certain that while fighting continues, children will continue to pay the price. “A staggering 15.8 million people in Sudan, one-third of the population, already were in need of humanitarian assistance.”The World Food Programme warns that the fighting in Sudan could plunge millions more into hunger.

The UAE has conducted efforts to secure the Egyptian soldiers who are in Sudan, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry announced. The two countries, Egypt and the UAE, have expressed appreciation to the International Committee of the Red Cross for its efforts in supporting the process of securing the Egyptian soldiers. The Egyptian soldiers detained in Sudan have been transferred from Meroe Airport to the capital, Khartoum, on Wednesday.
