Video clips released by the Sudanese army showed army forces celebrating in front of the main headquarters of the general command. Both parties have been trading claims of victory, however, the Sudanese Army has been gaining the upper hand. Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul-Gheit called on conflicting Sudanese parties to cease fire during the upcoming Eid Al-Fitr (festival of breaking the fast) holiday that follows the holy month of Ramadan. He indicated that the US is investigating the incident, and that initial reports indicated that the assailants might have been tied to the Rapid Support Forces.
