Egypt is getting ready to host the eighth annual meeting of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) in Sharm El-Sheikh on 25-26 September. The Prime Minister instructed that the event be organized similarly to the climate summit that was held in Sharm El-Sheikh last year. He noted that the Egyptian state has mobilized all its resources to make AIIB’s upcoming annual meetings in Sharm El-Sheikh a big success. He indicated that Egypt’s subscription to AIIB’s capital stands at $650m, making it the largest subscriber in Africa. The Minister of Finance also pointed out that AIIB’s investment portfolio in Egypt stands at $1.3bn, and that AIIB will also offer a guarantee for Egypt issuing green Panda bonds in Chinese Yuan worth $500m.

A ministerial steering committee met on Wednesday to review the implementation of the Kitchener Canal rehabilitation and development project, which aims to improve the canal’s efficiency and the living conditions of the residents along its course. The participants discussed the executive status of the project and the coordination among the concerned parties to accelerate its completion. The Kitchener Canal is one of the largest agricultural canals in Egypt, with a length of 69 kilometers. He said that his ministry had completed the environmental study for the project and obtained the approval of the Environmental Affairs Agency. She said that a technical committee was formed in 2020 to follow up on all technical aspects of the project.

CAIRO - 13 September 2023: Egypt will establish an integrated industrial complex for flat steel’s production in cooperation with an unnamed international company with an investments of $1 billion. Cabinet Spokesman, Nader Saad, explained that the project’s area is 1.5 million square meters. He added that the General Authority for the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone) has approved the project. This came within Egypt’s efforts under President El-Sisi’s directives of providing a supportive environment for Egypt’s heavy industries sector especially the iron and steel industry. The project will be the step in achieving state’s plan to develop the heavy and strategic industries and boost local industrialization in the heavy industries sector.

CAIRO – 12 September 2023: The Tobruk Coastal Security Administration announced, Tuesday, the arrival of 145 Egyptian bodies to the Tobruk morgue, to be sent to Egypt. The Egyptian victims are among thousands whom been killed and injured due to Mediterranean “Storm Daniel” that hit Libya during the past days. On its official page Facebook, Tobruk Coastal Security Administration confirmed that all Egyptian victims were deported to Egypt. Humanitarian aid is on the way, according to the Tripoli-based Government of National Unity. A flight loaded with 14 tons of supplies, including medical equipment and body bags, was sent to Benghazi this morning.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Egypt, Sameh Shoukry, met with the Senate Speaker of Equatorial Guinea, Teresa Efua Asangono, to discuss ways to enhance bilateral relations and exchange views on various international and continental issues. Shoukry stressed the importance of strengthening parliamentary cooperation between the two countries, including establishing parliamentary friendship committees. She praised the parliamentary experiences of the Egyptian Senate and expressed her pride in cooperating in many regional and international parliamentary forums. CAIRO – 13 September 2023: Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shokry made a phone call Tuesday to Moroccan counterpart Nasser Borita extending condolences on the victims of the earthquake, that hit the country Friday incurring over 2,800 deaths, and reiterating Egypt's support and solidarity with the Moroccan people. On the other hand, Minister Borita expressed the gratitude and appreciation of King Mohamed VI for the assistance and solidarity provided by President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi, valuing Egypt's declaration of three days of mourning in solidarity with Morocco. President Sisi met Tuesday with a number of commanders of the Egyptian Armed Forces, instructing the delivery of humanitarian aid, rescue teams and equipment, as well as camping gear to Libya and Morocco by both air and sea.

The forum comprised six sessions, including one that focused on creating favorable conditions for climate and environmental investments in Egypt.
