A delegation of Chilean businessmen in the area of dried and dehydrated fruits will visit Egypt in earlyOctober to hold business meetings, according to the Ambassador of Chile to Egypt, Roberto Ebert. He said that 2023 will mark 94 years of bilateral diplomatic relations. He said that in 2017, a memorandum of understanding for commercial cooperation was signed with Egypt, which established a joint trade committee. He said that this bilateral cooperation body has met twice, the last time being in April 2019 in Cairo. He highlighted the visit of the Chilean writer Lina Meruane in March of this year, as well as the screening of the Chilean movie “Machuca” on 25 September.

Egypt has sent its Mistral helicopter carrier to Libya to serve as a field hospital for the victims of the hurricane that hit the eastern part of the country. The hurricane swept through large areas of eastern Libya, killing thousands and leaving widespread destruction. President Al-Sisi said that he ordered the sending of the Mistral carrier because it is capable of managing a crisis without being a burden on the host country. He also said that they are working to direct the injured to hospitals or the Mistral carrier. Derna and other areas of eastern Libya were among the most affected by the hurricane.

CAIRO – 18 September 2023: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned in a statement Monday the storming into Al Aqsa Mosque by a group of extremists under the protection of Israeli police, calling on authorities to halt such escalations that provoke millions of Muslims worldwide and contribute to stirring violence on occupied Palestinian territories. Egypt stressed that the recurrent storming of the mosque and attempts to divide it in terms of time and place in violation of international law and related UNSC resolutions, would never change its historical and legal status as a purely Islamic worship place. The ministry renewed its call for influential international parties, and the United nations to fulfill their duties towards the Palestinian people. It also underscored Egypt's full commitment to backing the "unbending" Palestinian rights and all endeavors targeted at a fair and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian Cause. And, that is ultimately establishing a Palestinian State on the borders of June 4, 1967 having as capital Eastern Jerusalem.

Head of the Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency (EEAA), Ali Abu Sinna; led a high-level delegation from the Ministry of Environment, and participated in the meeting of the contact points for the Convention to Protect the Mediterranean Environment from Pollution “Barcelona Convention”. 22 countries representing the member states of the convention, representatives of the regional centres affiliated with the convention and a number of international organizations are participating in the conference, including the United Nations Environment Programme, the European Union, and civil society representatives. The banks operating in the Egyptian market achieved a net profit of approximately EGP 126.910bn by the end of the first half of the current year (1H 2023). The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE), in its quarterly report on the financial stability of banks, stated that the net return in banks reached approximately EGP 254.575bn by the end of June 2023. Meanwhile, the net activity revenues amounted to about EGP 299.313bn, and total expenses recorded approximately EGP 172.403bn. The report revealed that the net income of the top 10 banks recorded approximately EGP 193.867bn during the first half of 2023. Moreover, the net income recorded by the top 5 banks amounted to approximately EGP 162.871bn, while the net activity revenue reached around EGP 185.095bn.

President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi has called for enhancing cooperation with international experts to manage and operate the City of Arts and Culture, a new and unique hub of Egyptian artistic and cultural creativity in the new administrative capital. The president made the call during a meeting on Sunday with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, Minister of Finance Mohamed Maait, Minister of Culture Nevin al-Kilani, Commander of the Strategic Command and Supervisor of Military Manufacturing Ahmed Khaled, Chairperson of the Financial Affairs Authority of the Armed Forces Ahmed al-Shazly, and Chairperson of Administrative Capital for Urban Development (ACUD) Khaled Abbas. During the drafting process, the specialists took into consideration the constitutional framework as well as executive circumstances. That is the first step on the road to submit the draft to the president of the republic as it first had to go through the dialogue's board. The National Dialogue held Thursday a specialists' session, within the political axis, on political parties draft law; political parties' integration and coalition; financial and administrative governance of political parties; and, specializations of the Political Parties Affairs Committee.

The Emigration and Sponsoring Egyptians Abroad Law has established a new registration protocol for every person entitled to priority access to immigration or work opportunities abroad available at relevant ministries. Article #6 of the law stipulates that, without prejudice to the right of Egyptians to immigrate, those wishing to permanently immigrate shall be registered upon their request within a register prepared for this purpose in the ministry responsible for immigration affairs. Immigration opportunities that may be available at the ministry shall be distributed to those registered on the basis of their specializations, capabilities, specializations, and needs required in the diaspora countries, while adhering to the priority of registration within the register. The minister responsible for immigration affairs may determine priorities for certain specializations or qualifications required in diaspora countries or redundant in Egypt, and regulate registration in the aforementioned register alongside its procedures and conditions. Those who hold certificates from the training centers and qualification courses referred to in this law enjoy priority in obtaining immigration or work opportunities abroad available at the relevant ministries and agencies according to their required specializations.

Egypt and Hong Kong have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to enhance cooperation and exchange information in the field of investments. The MoU was signed by Hossam Heiba, CEO of the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI), and Jimmy Chiang, Associate Director-General of Invest Hong Kong, on the sidelines of the 8th session of the Belt and Road Summit in Hong Kong. The MoU aims to facilitate the flow of investments between the two sides and to organize visits for representatives of financial and industrial companies based in Hong Kong to explore investment opportunities in Egypt. The MoU also aims to share experiences and information on the incentive packages granted to projects operating in Egypt. Heiba called on Chinese companies to continue investing in Egypt, especially in fields such as textile industries, household appliances, automobile components, and petrochemicals.

The Egyptian Refining Company (ERC), a subsidiary of Qalaa Holding Group for Investments, said that it is seeking to develop a study to increase its diesel production capacity in the medium term. He noted that ERC is not currently facing diesel crises, and has not reduced its production. ERC’s production of diesel is estimated at 2.3 million tonnes annually. The ERC project saved $300 million annually for the General Petroleum Corporation by avoiding the costs of transporting and securing imported petroleum materials. Earlier, Qalaa Holdings, the owner of ERC, revealed that it is considering further expansion in ERC’s production by 800,000 more tonnes.

Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry left for New York on Saturday to participate in the high-level segment of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly, which will start on September 18. The Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Ahmed Abu Zeid, said that Shoukry’s agenda will include several summits and high-level events of special importance. He will address the UN General Assembly on September 23, and take part in the Sustainable Development Goals Summit and the Climate Ambition Summit. Shoukry will also attend several important ministerial meetings to discuss the most pressing international and regional issues that are a priority for Egypt.
