I hid my own drug use for years, and I can tell you that stigma does not inspire hope or change in a person. When people argue for punitive drug policies, they’re not motivating anyone to seek help. None of that inspired me to seek help when my drug use became an addiction. How does that stigma help anyone? Stigma is real and it’s killing people.

CSIS failed to fully consider human toll when disrupting threats, watchdog saysOTTAWA — A new report from the federal spy watchdog says the Canadian Security Intelligence Service failed to adequately consider the potentially serious adverse effects on people and their families when using its powers to disrupt potential threats. For instance, the disruption powers could permit CSIS to thwart travel plans, cancel bank transactions or covertly interfere with radical websites. Under the law, CSIS needs "reasonable grounds to believe" there is a security threat before taking measures to disrupt it. The review agency focused on the extent to which CSIS appropriately identified, documented and considered negative effects that the spy service's measures could have on people. The review agency found that CSIS's documentation of the information disclosed to such outside parties as part of threat reduction measures "was inconsistent and, at times, lacked clarity and specificity."

Following the surprising Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) recall for their full self-driving (FSD) vehicles, it appears the electric vehicle giant did not disclose the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) requests for a recall in its most recent earnings. Instead, the firm announced some more than $1 billion in deferred revenue from FSD in its last earnings call. The NHTSA on Thursday filed a notice, stating that just under 363,000 vehicles equipped with the feature are being recalled. While being classified as a “recall,” Tesla will reportedly correct the software via an over-the-air, or OTA, update. On top of the nearly 363,000 vehicles Tesla is recalling, it is also recalling some more of its FSD-equipped models in Canada.

Trudeau says Canadians decided 2021 election outcome in spite of Chinese meddlingOTTAWA — Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Canadian voters alone decided the last federal election as he played down a report Friday that China tried to unduly sway the outcome. "All Canadians can have total confidence that the outcomes of the 2019 and the 2021 elections were determined by Canadians, and Canadians alone, at the voting booth," Trudeau said Friday when asked about the Globe story. Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre said Friday that Trudeau chose not to be transparent about Chinese interference because it benefited him. Suggestions that China tried to sway the outcome of the 2021 federal election are not new. A federal research unit detected what might be a Chinese Communist Party information operation that aimed to discourage Canadians of Chinese heritage from voting for the Conservatives.
