Due diligence is a major part of M&A work, and that work traditionally involves junior lawyers reading through reams of contracts. The ChatGPT of 2023 isn’t going to be the ChatGPT of the future. Humans also have something going for them, a built-in advantage artificial intelligence can’t match: our humanity. Artificial intelligence has billions and billions of data points to mine, and ChatGPT can spit them out in tidy, paragraph form, albeit with factual errors. New Canadian guidelines on the wayIn Canada, where about one in 10 children has obesity, treatment guidelines are also in the process of being updated. A team of more than 50 experts across the country is reviewing the latest evidence and consulting families with children who have obesity to determine the best approach. Henderson, who is also working on the Canadian guidelines, said children with obesity are at risk of high blood pressure, cholesterol problems, and diabetes. Still, Henderson said that treatment doesn’t work for all children, and not everyone has access to programs focused on that approach. “There is a subset of children despite making all their efforts living with very severe obesity and very severe complications,” she said.

Tungasuvvingat Inuit (TI), a counselling and resource centre for Inuit in Ottawa, opened its new Food Security Program building on Friday, saying it’s another step to helping them better serve their clients. “The opening of the food security centre has allowed TI to continue its mission of providing Inuit-specific programs that contribute to the health and well-being of Inuit in the community,” Rhonda Huneault, TI’s manager of food Security. Local MPP Lucille Collard said it’s important programs were in place addressing the needs of the province’s Inuit population. “Programs like this one are vital for the health of our community, and it is so important that food security programs meet the needs of the communities they serve,” Collard said. Although Ottawa is in the South, it has the largest Inuit population (estimated by community groups at between 3,700 to 6,000) outside of the North.

The Jays finished last season with 775 runs, second in the American League to the New York Yankees. The one-dimensional approach left the Jays exposed to certain types of pitchers. Those are the three players the Jays brought in this off-season to diversify their lineup while also increasing speed and upgrading the defence. “I think what they did this off-season with adding left-handed hitters is helpful for sure,” Belt said after his first day at the Jays’ spring training complex. “I think it’s a much more balanced lineup,” Jays manager John Schneider said.

While it was to become an open secret that U.S. President John F. Kennedy and John Diefenbaker came to despise the other, these feelings weren’t evident on this date in 1961. Dief had flown to Washington for his first face-to-face talks with Kennedy at the White House. Diefenbaker, for example, described for Kennedy the challenges the Commonwealth faced because of South Africa’s odious apartheid policies. “He said that this question of its readmission would cause great difficulty with the (black) members of the Commonwealth and that it placed him in a very difficult position. Atlantic Premiers met today to discuss important regional and national issues, chart a course for regional collaboration in 2023, and celebrate the opening of the Canada Winter Games. Two weeks ago, the Prime Minister presented his government’s proposal for increasing health care funding to provinces and territories, which Canada’s Premiers have agreed to accept. While the proposal does not address the long-term sustainability challenge facing health care in Canada, Premiers noted the benefits of bilateral agreements that provide flexibility and recognize the unique demographic and geographical challenges facing the Atlantic region in delivering health care services. The bilateral funding will assist provinces in accelerating progress on their priorities such as access to primary care, reducing surgery backlogs, recruiting and retaining health care workers, and improving mental health and addictions care. Atlantic Canada is a prime destination for those looking to move to or within Canada and has proven itself to be an ideal location to pilot new immigration programs.
