(John Stapleton/Town of Marystown - image credit)John Stapleton/Town of MarystownThe Canning Bridge in Marystown used to connect residents on the town's south side to the town's north side, where all of its grocery stores, restaurants and shops are located. It's taking a toll on residents, including women and children living in shelter care at the Grace Sparkes House, which sits on the town's south side, away from many critical services. There's another bridge that connects the town's south and north sides, but it's much farther down the highway and farther away from the town's center and business district. Slaney says the shelter has always depended on taxis to transport women and children from both sides of the town.

While boarding a cruise ship these days is now done via an appointment system, backups will occur, especially in San Diego when two vessels are docked the same day. San Diego’s B Street Terminal, developed in the 1980s, is the principal location for passengers boarding ships and is scheduled to undergo some upgrades. Because space is limited, long lines can form on occasion during the check-in process. We’d especially like to hear from those passengers who boarded on a day when two ships were docked at the B Street Pier. AdvertisementWe are seeking your input as part of a story we are doing on plans to upgrade the B Street Terminal.

Stone chimney is all that remains of a world class grindstone quarryOn the rocky shore of a quiet Rockport beach, a large stone chimney appears to be about to plunge into the Bay of Fundy. “But at some point, the quarry that we’re actually in now begins its story, as far as we know, around 1814. Back then, grindstones were a big deal.”This photo from Rockport shows a partially finished grindstone and evidence of quarrying. Sandstone also used for constructionStone from the quarries in the area was also known as a very good building stone. (Provincial Archives of New Brunswick)Today, all that remains of an industry that shipped thousands of tons of grindstone and employed thousands of workers is the stone chimney in Rockport, on a “small precarious outcrop that erodes daily,” Upham said.

Along with the tanks and ammunition, Canada has also provided over $5 billion in aid and military equipment such as air defence systems, rocket launchers and defensive equipment. Trudeau expressed his frustration, saying he believes its wrong for Google to prevent Canadians from accessing news, rather than paying journalists for their work. Laurentian University professor April Lindgren said the blocking of news content was “unprecedented” and suggested it was started in response to Bill C-18 passing its second reading in the Senate. The proposed law would require Google and Facebook‘s parent company, Meta, to pay Canadian news publishers and broadcasters for the news articles shown on their platforms. Money gained from this could cover a third of news content creation costs in Canada. Altogether, Trudeau’s disapproval proves that it is of utmost importance in Canada to ensure that journalists are respected and appropriately compensated for their work.
