National Public Radio (NPR), on the other hand, is a Democratic Party initiative. Unlike the CBC, NPR was never designed to be a network. Initially, it was just a few dozen scattered local radio stations, licenced to colleges and universities. This became a successful model that today has more than a thousand local radio stations as part of the NPR system. Jeffrey Dvorkin is the former managing editor and chief journalist at CBC Radio and former VP-news and information at NPR.

The Maple Leafs have only lost three games in a row once this season. It’s not like the Leafs are trying to jump a pyramid of 50 cars, a la Evel Knievel. The Leafs 0-10 in games where the opposition could have been eliminated in the era of Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner. There were two games the Leafs should have lost but found a way to rally from the depths and prevail. The Lightning came out in a fury but the Leafs had already cracked open Tampa’s aura of invincibility.

Photographer Ken Pretty spotted this strangely shaped iceberg off the coast of Harbour Grace, N.L., on Thursday. has captured the attention of iceberg lovers after photographing an oddly-shaped hunk — now popularly known as the "dickie berg" on social media — off the coast of Newfoundland. "I'm gettin' a lot of response, a lot of reaction to the photo because of its resemblance to ... part of the male anatomy, say," chuckled drone photographer Ken Pretty. The berg got its nickname from the term "dickie bird," a Newfoundland euphemism for the male anatomy. But anyone rushing off to see the "dickie berg" of Harbour Grace for themselves is in for a disappointment.

(Higher-skilled jobs are defined as requiring a minimum of two years of post-secondary education and above; lower-skilled jobs only require some high school education and on-the-job training.) Even among longer-term economic immigrants who have been in Canada for more than a decade, 31 per cent were in lower-skilled positions. This group of immigrants, selected for their higher education and skills, is a major provider of lower-skilled labour. It accounted for 53 per cent of all adult immigrants, and almost half (46 per cent) of the immigrant labour force in lower-skilled jobs. “Traditionally, economic immigrants in particular have been selected based on a ‘human capital model,’ which orients immigration towards higher educated individuals,” said the report.

When I was hired as president of Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador, I was given a mandate to initiate change at the university by the Board of Regents. Personal attacksWhat was different about being president at Memorial University, compared to the other universities I have led, was that the social media and email attacks began almost immediately, and quickly escalated. I let the Board of Regents know about it, and I released a statement to the university community. I am appreciative that I had the opportunity to serve as president of Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador, and I know the people of the province have a special place in their heart for their university. Vianne Timmons is the former president of Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador.

Goaltender Jake Oettinger, coming off a Game 5 shutout of Minnesota, is 24. But for this generation of young Stars to truly be immortalized, playoff steppingstones like Friday night’s potential series-clinching Game 6 in St. Paul’s Xcel Energy Center must be crossed. Since losing Joe Pavelski in Game 1 and falling in overtime, the Stars have flexed superiority and outscored the Wild 15-10 despite a stinker 5-1 Game 3 loss in St. Paul. “He’s doing some special things, for being at the stage of the career he’s at,” DeBoer said. It seemingly bodes well that young Oettinger on Thursday sounded like a wise veteran when asked about the Stars’ mindset entering Game 6.

Dubas, as it has been well-documented, is in the final year of his original five-year contract. “I fully expect to be judged on the full body of my work over the five-year term of my contract. But as the stakes are raised with every Leafs win, there are the complexities of what a full body of work means to Dubas, MLSE and, ultimately, Leafs fans.
