Four of the incidents in early 2023 resulted in library staff reportedly being injured physically or psychologically, according to the report. (As added context, there have been six incidents resulting in library staff injuries since 2020.) Bebbington said that would free up library staff to focus on their mandate: promoting literacy and delivering library services.

The minister said Wednesday an additional 13,000 active employees with regional centres for education and with the province’s francophone school board had personal data stolen, including names, addresses and social insurance numbers. As well, hackers stole personal data from about 17,500 water and tax bill accounts with the Region of Queens Municipality in southwestern Nova Scotia, along with data from the Nova Scotia Pension Agency. The province said Halifax Water has also notified 25,000 customers that names and account numbers were a part of the data breach. PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Penguins have hired two-time NHL All-Star Jason Spezza as assistant general manager. President of hockey operations Kyle Dubas announced the move on Wednesday. Spezza spent the 2022-23 season working as a special assistant to Dubas when Dubas served as the general manager in Toronto. As a member of the Stars in 2018, Spezza became the 326th player in NHL history to play in 1,000 games. The government of Malaysia has initiated the placement of 5,000 vending machines to offer meals in public locations, according to a report at thestar.com. Rafizi Ramli, the minister of the economy, expects to procure 4,900 machines under the People's Income Initiative within two months. So far, 100 machines have completed the procurement process. The ministry is in the process of evaluating qualified applicants through an open procurement process. The demand for the machines is highest in public places like hospitals and campuses.

After seven provinces cancelled contracts that saw them paid to incarcerate migrants detained under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act, federal ministers acknowledge the government needs a new system. CBSA has not indicated what will happen to the immigration detainees currently held in jails after provincial agreements officially end. He did not rule out the possibility of transferring immigration detainees to prisons in other provinces. Public Safety Minister Marco Mendicino says discussions are still ongoing with provinces to determine what will happen to immigration detainees presently held in provincial jails. The federal government still has a contract with Ontario, the province with the largest number of immigration detainees.
