Nigeria’s Itana, formerly Talent City, has raised US$2 million in a pre-seed funding round that supports its bid to develop Africa’s first Digital Free Zone, which aims to improve the ease-of-doing-business index, drive foreign direct investment, and catalyse employment. Itana will be a fully online jurisdiction for the digital economy, with the ideal policies, business services and technology for global digital and service businesses to remotely operate and scale with ease across Africa. By 2027, Itana will also be coupled with an eco-friendly startup district in Alaro free zone (Epe, Lagos). Regional bloc says soldiers to stay until December 8 as local opposition grows to peacekeepers and tensions between DRC and Rwanda simmer. East African leaders have agreed to extend the mandate of a regional military force deployed to quell violence in the strife-torn east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. An EAC statement issued on Tuesday after a summit in Nairobi said the heads of state had agreed to extend the duration of the mandate for the regional force to December 8, pending an evaluation report. The EAC force has taken over some areas previously occupied by M23 but has so far failed to end the conflict. Tshisekedi has accused Rwanda of seeking “to occupy our land, rich in gold, coltan and cobalt, for their own exploitation and profit” and urged the international community to condemn Kigali.

Tunisia - After five consecutive months of decline, inflation rose to 9.3% in August 2023, compared with 9.1% in July 2023 and 9.3% in June 2023, the National Statistics Institute (INS) announced on Tuesday. In terms of the contribution to inflation by scheme, the 'free food' and 'free non-food groups' groups were equally the largest contributors to inflation, at 4%. In August 2023, food prices were 15.3% higher than a year before. Core inflation fell slightly to 7.2%The core inflation (excluding food and energy) fell slightly to 7.2% from 7.3% in the previous month. The International Air Transport Association (IATA) released data for July 2023 global air cargo markets, showing a continuing trend of recovering growth rates since February. July air cargo demand was tracking just 0.8% below the previous year’s levels.
