With the French government warning ransomware attacks directed at the Olympics are ‘inevitable’, ExtraHop research reveals France experienced the second most ransomware attacks in the last 12 months, just behind the US, with organizations averaging more than nine incidents and paying nearly $2 million in ransoms. Security teams must also be extra vigilant and identify and plug any security blind spots, such as misconfigurations and vulnerabilities, that attackers can exploit to gain access to their data and assets. Russia has historically focused its naval strategy on continental waters, primarily the northern seas, rather than the Mediterranean. Historical Context and Naval DoctrineHistorically, Russian elites have viewed the Mediterranean and Black Seas as interconnected, compelling the Soviet Union to project its influence into the Mediterranean as the dominant Black Sea power. During the Cold War, the USSR forged agreements with Mediterranean-bordering nations to bolster its naval presence. However, this arrangement dissolved by 1961, reducing Soviet naval days in the Mediterranean significantly. The most likely scenario sees Russia consolidating its Mediterranean presence, exploiting Western inaction and shifting American focus towards China.

Nearly 40 million people were living with the HIV virus that causes AIDS last year, over 9 million weren’t getting any treatment, and the result was that every minute someone died of AIDS-related causes, the U.N. said in a new report launched Monday. In 2023, around 630,000 people died from AIDS-related illnesses, a significant decline from the 2.1 million deaths in 2004. He said UNAIDS has been asking the manufacturer to make it available at lower cost to low and middle-income countries. Nunez said there have also been seven cases where people with HIV who were treated for leukemia emerged with no sign of the HIV virus in their system. It has allowed many countries to increase the number of people with HIV to receive treatment.

A new UNAIDS report reveals that, for the first time, most new HIV infections occurred outside sub-Saharan Africa. Sub-Saharan Africa has made significant progress, with infections dropping 56% since 2010, compared to a 39% global decrease. According to the report, this reality shows the prevention achievements in sub-Saharan Africa and the lack of comparable progress elsewhere. It noted that 39.9 million people globally live with HIV, with 1.3 million new infections and 630,000 AIDS-related deaths in 2023. Eastern Europe, Central Asia, Latin America, the Middle East, and North Africa are regions most affected by the rising cases.
