The International Court of Justice (ICJ) has announced provisional measures in the genocide case brought by South Africa against Israel over its military campaign in Gaza. It also ordered Israel to report to the court within a month on the implementation of these orders. Europe’s responseEuropean countries have different views about South Africa’s genocide case, as they do of Israel’s military campaign more broadly, but it is essential that they now unite to fully support the ICJ’s decision and demand the implementation of the measures it imposes. Under the Room to Run Sovereign (R2RS) transaction, four African countries have unlocked much-needed climate financing totalling more than $400 million thanks to loan guarantees provided by the United Kingdom (UK) government. The loan guarantees will help Benin, Kenya, Mauritius and Tunisia enhance the reliability of their national grids and strengthen the countries’ resilience to climate change. By providing these loan guarantees, the UK unlocked additional funding towards this initiative. Morocco’s tourism has turned the Covid 19 page, breaking a new record with the arrival of 14.5 million tourists last year, up 34% from 2022. The milestone shows a 12% increase compared to 2019 when Morocco attracted 13 million tourists, the ministry said in a statement. More than 1.3 million tourists visited Morocco in December giving a boon to a sector that represents about 7% of GDP. Morocco relies on increasing air routes between Moroccan cities and with European airports to attract more tourists. In a recent deal, Ryanair said it will launch flights connecting 9 Moroccan cities in summer 2024.

Tropical gusts wafting out of Africa later this month promise to crank up the heat for an early taste of summer. Late winter records are under threat with the ingredients in place to drive "incredible temperatures" towards the end of February. The warm-up will be powered in part by freakish winter heat currently roasting the Continent and North Africa. However, in the meantime, sun-starved Britons face another cold snap with Arctic winds threatening to return after the weekend. South Africa finds its self among the last 16 standing at the 2023 CAF Africa Cup of Nations being held in Côte d'Ivoire. The Bafana Bafana, participating in their 11th AFCON, are on a quest to claim their second title. Their football history is rich, highlighted by their triumphant win in 1996, a second-place finish in 1998, and a third-place in 2000. In its fifth year, the MENA Film Festival in Vancouver is set to showcase its most expansive and regionally diverse array of films on the big screen from January 27 to February 1. Founded in 2019, the festival works to bridge the gaps in the arts and provide Middle East and North African (MENA) — also known as South West Asian and North African (SWANA) — representation. The 2024 artwork, sold as a limited-edition print, was crafted by Egyptian artist Marwan Shahin from Shahin Studios in Los Angeles. The 90-minute feature won the Amnesty International Film Award at the 2023 Berlin International Film Festival. Her mother remembers this experience as “being thrust into adulthood in a singular moment.”The MENA Film Festival aims to make the online screenings available in the United States next year, the festival’s strategy director Ghinwa Yassine said.
