The combined Moroccan-American exercise “African Lion 2024” wrapped up on Friday at Cap Draa (north of Tan-Tan), with air and ground military maneuvers involving units from the Moroccan and US armed forces. General Langley told the press after the air and ground maneuvers that Exercise African Lion is a pioneering multinational exercise that facilitates regional cooperation and partnerships between the various participants. He added that this year is very special as it marks the 20th anniversary of the “African Lion” exercise involving Moroccan and international partners to establish constructive regional cooperation and reinforce mutual support. Colonel Mike Weinsman, of the US forces, said that this year marks the 20th anniversary of the African Lion exercise, which began as a small exercise between Morocco and the United States and has now become the largest maneuver on the African continent. The program for the 20th edition of the “African Lion 2024” exercise included joint land, sea and air tactical exercises, both day and night, a Special Forces Exercise and operations for airborne forces, as well as a “Task Force” operational planning exercise.

As the Algerian journalist and opposition activist Hichem Aboud, author of the best-seller ‘LA MAFIA DES GENERAUX’, pointed out in one of his videos on 20 May, referring to these ‘unscrupulous generals’: ‘Algeria has no project. In this regard, we would very much welcome a similar initiative against the ‘Algerian generals’ who continue to violate human rights, murder opponents and pursue a policy of anti-Amazigh apartheid, repressing the ‘Amazigh’ communities in Algeria for decades. They even dared to assassinate a president who was going to turn Algeria around, in this case Mohamed Boudiaf. Let us not forget that the day after Algerian independence, President Ahmed Ben Bella declared in his speech of 5 October 1962: ‘We are Arabs, Arabs, ten million Arabs’. If our friend Hichem Aboud claims that the Algerian generals have no plan, we can affirm the opposite.

The approach is also aimed at making public enterprises conducive to attracting private investments by engaging in partnerships with the private sector. The fourth pillar consists in bolstering the competitiveness of state-owned enterprises to be able to offer productive jobs and stand out in a competitive environment, the minister added. The seventh pillar consists in strengthening the role of state-owned enterprises in promoting governance and improving performance, she said.

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — North Korea launched hundreds of more trash-carrying balloons toward the South after a similar campaign a few days earlier, according to South Korea’s military, in what Pyongyang calls retaliation for activists flying anti-North Korean leaflets across the border. Between Saturday night and Sunday morning, about 600 balloons flown from North Korea have been found in various parts of South Korea. In 2020, North Korea blew up an empty South Korean-built liaison office on its territory after a furious response to South Korean civilian leafleting campaigns. In 2014, North Korea fired at propaganda balloons flying toward its territory and South Korea returned fire, though there were no casualties. In 2022, North Korea even suggested that balloons flown from South Korea had caused a COVID-19 outbreak in the isolated nation, a highly questionable claim that appeared to be an attempt to blame the South for worsening inter-Korean relations.

Its options are a coalition with the DA, which is in second place on 22%, or the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) party led by former President Jacob Zuma, on 15%. He replaced Mr Zuma as both president and ANC leader following a bitter power struggle in 2018. But he ruled out the EFF and the MK party as potential coalition partners. A coalition with the radical left in South Africa of the MK party and the EFF will produce the same policies that destroyed Zimbabwe, destroyed Venezuela," he said. Patrick Gaspard, who was the US ambassador to South Africa in 2013-16, described the election results as a "moment of reckoning".

Many barely knew their fathers by the time they’d left for war; others were born after their fathers enlisted. John English, Jim Miller and John Wadland – all retired university professors – were born when their fathers were at war against the Axis powers. At the time of his enlistment in 1942, he was married to a fellow Scot named Isabella Rodger, and they’d had one child: a son, John. Like John Wadland, Jim also has a stack of letters exchanged between his parents during the war. For his part, John English knows his dad had “a good war.” But that doesn’t take away from his service in uniform.
