This First Person column is from Calgary artist Claudia Reyes who moved to Canada from Mexico. When I talk to people in Canada and they find out where I’m from, they often say things like, “Oh! Claudia Reyes painted her hometown in black and white to show how dystopian life in Mexico felt to her. As her fears and worries eased, Claudia Reyes embraced life in Calgary and began traveling and hiking again. Artist Claudia Reyes began painting colorful scenes of nature after her fear gradually faded.
