INDORE: Braving a hot summer evening, people in party attire queued up for pledging their organs for donation at a counter in Indore on Saturday. The queue was not outside any health camp, but at a wedding reception.Newlyweds Dr Vaibhav Jain and Dr Yamini Sonvane had declined to accept any gifts from their guests. Unlike the usual practice of addressing wedding cards to the male heads of the family, 800 invitations were addressed to the ladies.They tied up with a NGO to put up the organ donation counter - informing people about the procedures and clearing the myths surrounding them. Cadaver donation from the city rose to 40 this year from earlier just four a few years back.Dr Sanjay Dixit, secretary, Indore Society for Organ Donation, said, "It's a great initiative and awareness among people is rising gradually in the city. Indore now has the facility for liver as well as heart transplant."
