It came as no surprise when the elder Yadav pushed his son, Akhilesh, into the chief ministerial slot. But the soreness felt by Shivpal remained a family matter. Many of the UP and the Yadav clan observers felt that the young Akhilesh was hedged in from all sides, and he has not been his own chief minister. Both Shivpal and Azam Khan remained thorns in the side of young Akhilesh. Mulayam, Akhilesh and Shivpal cannot be unaware of the fact that the family fracas would undermine the credibility of the party in the run up to the assembly election.
