The Central governments, especially the one led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) coalition, seem to stake their entire reputation on how they deal with the Kashmir situation. It is indeed politically correct to refer to Jammu and Kashmir, though trouble is confined to the Kashmir Valley, but it does not make political sense. The only way the BJP could have succeeded in the Kashmir Valley is by identifying with the Kashmir Valley. The problem in the Valley is not with the Hurriyat leaders who have limited political appeal. It is the alienation of the general public that should be worrying the Central and state governments.
