Gatti has concluded that Ferrante, who has authored nine books since 1992, is Anita Raja, a translator based in Rome. This, in turn, has upset Ferrante’s readers, who though curious about the author’s identity all along, would have rather wanted the writer to reveal herself voluntarily. Now the prospect of Ferrante writing again is in jeopardy though is yet to make a public statement. These interviews offered Gatti adequate cues to respect Ferrante’s wish for anonymity. The real Ferrante must remain a bridge too far for the rest of us until she chooses to open up.
