He was team director from 2014-2016, which saw the ascendancy of Kohli as India skipper across formats. It could turn out to be a three-way contest between Shastri, Moody and Sehwag after the Indian cricket board (BCCI) extended the last date for applying to July 9.The extension is also seen as a move to bring Shastri back in con tention. Sources said Tendulkar has already asked his colleagues in the CAC Laxman and Sourav Ganguly to consider Shastri's case. "Besides Shastri, Sehwag is another leading choice who has applied on the Indian captain's insistence," a source close to CAC told TOI.
