Hwange residents have urged Government to exempt them from paying radio and television licence fees since their area does not receive Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) radio and television signals. Speaking at a Zimbabwe Digital Broadcast Content creators meeting in Hwange last Friday, the disgruntled residents said it was unfair for them to pay licence fees because they never had access to local television and radio programmes since independence. "We don't understand why we're being forced to pay radio and television licences yet we don't receive ZBC signals. "We, therefore, want to be exempted from paying radio and television licences until we're able to receive transmission. "We're currently in the process of installing transmitters in the areas with no signal and the money being paid as licence fees is going towards this investment.
