Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held the first phone conversation in the history of bilateral relations with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali on 20 July. Zelenskyy noted that Ukraine had delivered nearly 300,000 tonnes of food to Ethiopia as part of the Black Sea Grain Initiative and another 90,000 tonnes of grain as part of the Grain from Ukraine humanitarian initiative. "The voice of Ethiopia, the African Union, the whole of Africa is very important to us," Zelenskyy said. In his evening address, Zelenskyy also said that he had spoken to the Ethiopian Prime Minister about Russia's attempt to disrupt Ukraine’s grain exports. And by the way, we have already started preparing for the UN Security Council meeting scheduled for tomorrow, which is dedicated to this very issue, food security.
