Zambia sees an increase in hydropower generation

Zambia sees an increase in hydropower generationThe Zambian minister of energy, David Mabumba, has announced that in recent months hydropower generation has improved due to increased water levels in key reservoirs. Mabumba noted that current power generation now stands at 1,573MW against peak demands of 1,900MW, the ZNBC reported. According to media, the minister said the Kafue Gorge Power Station, which is one of the country’s biggest power plants, has improved electricity generation from 630 to 820MW. Hydropower generation declineThe southern African country has been experiencing electricity rationing since June 2015 after a scorching drought hit the region’s hydropower generation. Last year, Zambia requested South Africa’s power utility, Eskom to provide it with 300MW of off-peak power.
