KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian humanitarian aid organisations can play a role in helping the lives of those threatened in conflict areas, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. Dr Ahmad Zahid said on Sunday that organisations such as the Malaysian Relief Agency (MRA) can raise the public awareness of important issues and humanitarian tragedies that affect countries like Yemen. "As Yemen was a poor Arab country even before this, the present conflict has further aggravated the social crisis in the country," said Ahmad Zahid. Ahmad Zahid said MRA is the only humanitarian agency from Malaysia which has been in Yemen in an official capacity since 2015. There are 5,800 Yemenis currently in Malaysia and 300 Malaysian students are currently studying in Yemen.
