Youth movement campaigns for ‘human rights vote’

MANILA, Philippines — A movement composed of hundreds of youth organizations was launched yesterday to drum up support for what they described as the “human rights vote” in the upcoming midterm elections. Without naming specific candidates, the movement – called #WeTheBrave – vowed to rally behind those who will uphold human rights when elected into public office. The public officials we will elect shall be ‘karapat-dapat,’ those who will uphold and put human rights first and foremost,” the group said. “We shall strongly rally our support towards a human rights vote this election,” it added. Organizers said the movement, initiated by the Center for Youth Advocacy Network and artist-activist collective Dakila, is composed of some 600 youth leaders representing about 300 youth organizations nationwide.
