A 20-year-old woman lost HK$130,000 after being recruited as an “order handler,” which claimed that she could get paid by simply clicking on online shopping platforms. Police said they received a report from the woman surnamed Sze on Tuesday. The victim was then instructed to deposit a total of some HK$130,000 into three bank accounts for “shopping on the platform.”After receiving the money, the recruiter suddenly disappeared, and the woman called the police. After preliminary investigations, the case was classified as “obtaining property by deception” and was referred to Wong Tai Sin police for follow-up. Some fraudsters will even pay commissions to gain the trust of victims after their initial deposits.
