THE unique sound of an oboe can hold an audience in a trance and oboist Aylssa Yam knows the power of her instrument. During her third and final celebratory recital, the 21-year-old Penangite performed Domenico Cimarosa’s Oboe Concerto, Benjamin Britten’s Six Metamorphoses After Ovid, the Rosemary Oboe Trio and a 1920s medley of classics. “I then decided I wanted to perform in Penang as it is my hometown,” she said after the recital. Yam has performed with the Penang Symphony Orchestra, the Penang Philharmonic Orchestra and the Malaysian Philharmonic Youth Orchestra. She said she was glad her final celebratory performance went well.
