Police, Land Search and Rescue and Ruapehu Alpine Rescue Organisation were working to retrieve the young man's body from just above the falls. An 18-year-old man has died during a kayaking expedition along the Tongariro River. Search and rescue teams, a rescue helicopter and all emergency services had been called to the scene to help.
