Syrian refugees in Turkey, these children have inherited a yearning for a country they know little to nothing about. More than 3.6 million Syrians have found shelter from the decade-long conflict in neighbouring Turkey, including around 1.5 million children under the age of 15, according to official figures. Released on Wednesday, the report also says nearly half of young Syrians lost their income because of the conflict and almost eight in 10 are struggling to afford food and other necessities. The survey is a sombre snapshot of a generation who lost their adolescence and young adulthood to the conflict, ” says Robert Mardini, the ICRC’s Geneva-based director-general. This wound will live with me for a lifetime.” According to the United Nations, about 5.6 million Syrians are registered as refugees outside the country.
