YouTube TV, from Alphabet's Google, launched yesterday into five markets: New York, Los Angeles, the Bay Area, Chicago and Philadelphia. When YouTube announced YouTube TV a month ago, I did an analysis of its likely appeal compared to other skinny bundles. YouTube TV now looks more competitive. It doesn't run on Smart TVs or standalone internet TV devices such as Roku, Apple TV and Amazon Fire TV, whereas other skinny bundles do. Given that the basic YouTube runs on these devices, it's certainly conceivable that YouTube will add support for them to YouTube TV as the service continues its rollout.
