Andrew Cuomo and Mayor Bill de Blasio think they can put the clamps back on New York City as we begin to re-open. Cuomo was irked by scenes of revelers hanging out in the streets and in front of bars in Manhattan and the Hamptons over the weekend. Cuomo threatened to shut parts of Manhattan and the Hamptons if partiers continue to flood the streets. De Blasio shot back that “imprisoning people” isn’t the way to go, that we have to balance public safety with letting businesses re-open. But we all have the constitutional right to free assembly, and that right is still being curtailed for many in New York City because of lockdown rules.
