Kew Ong Yeah temple vice president Tan Ah Lek said when the disaster struck, a lot of the victims took shelter at nearby school, but it was busy managing students who were sitting for Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia exams. “We are all family, regardless of race and religion,” said the 57-year-old, when met at the temple, here, widely known to the residents as the Yellow Temple. He said the temple also provides financial aid to ailing individuals every month, and among those who came to seek, included Malay families. Habsah thanked “Ah Lek” for his willingness to help her family. “Although we are from different race and religion, Ah Lek and his sincere colleagues showed that we can all put our differences aside to help each other.”
