Contemplating the first year since the election of Ontario Premier Doug Ford on June 7, 2018, the custom is in many ways fitting. In Ontario, under his Progressive Conservative government, it has been a year of living chaotically. No less disconcerting, Doug Ford has established his own propaganda machine, Ontario News Now, a taxpayer-funded vanity project to gush breathlessly about these initiatives for the so-called ordinary folks. Doug Ford was portrayed as having a short attention span, an inclination to shoot from the hip, and a taste for picking needless fights. By the fourth year, with an eye on a looming election, even the most ardent budget-slashers must contemplate political consequences.
