Year’s first D.C. homicide is on year’s first day


The year’s first homicide in the District occurred on the year’s first day. In another of the five shootings reported in the city Tuesday a man described as a bystander was critically wounded, according to D.C. police. Another shooting occurred about 2:50 p.m. in the 2000 block of Rhode Island Avenue NE, near Brookland. Newsham said that police had only a scant description of the assailant in the Kennedy Street shooting, but that detectives were questioning two people. Within an hour, the Barnaby Road shooting was reported.
