— Just as the ball hit the top of the padding on the right-field wall, caroming into the outfield, Kansas City Royals right fielder Jorge Soler crashed into it as well. Because he fell down, the ball was still being relayed toward the infield when the Yankees’ Aaron Hicks crossed the plate with his second inside-the-park home run of this young season. The Yankees slugged five home runs in their 8-3 victory on Saturday, but the one by the speedy Hicks in the third inning was the most memorable. Mickey Mantle is believed to be the last Yankee to have hit more than one inside-the-park homer in a season — when he hit three between May 9 and June 5 of 1958. Hicks was astounded to learn that Mantle had hit so many in such a short time.
