Yahoo revealed last night that 23 lawsuits seeking class action status have been filed against the company after hackers stole details of more than 500 million user accounts in late 2014. In a regulatory filing to the US Securities and Exchange Commission in New York, the internet giant said that it had spent $1 million in relation to the breach in the past quarter. However, the company also admitted that the hack might “cause users and customers to curtail or stop using our products and services”. Yahoo did not provide an estimate of what the total cost of the breach could be, only that it could be “material”.
