YA author calls out Run review's 'bad' implications of bisexual character

But a recent controversy around the YA trade publication Voices of Youth Advocates (Voya) magazine provides a telling counter-narrative. Which means that, perhaps, it’s people like Shriver who want greater limits on certain voices and certain perspectives. As Angie Manfredi pointed out on Twitter, Axelrod suggests that “being bisexual” makes the book unsuitable for younger readers. In the past, and still today, in children’s literature certain characters, certain ideas, certain themes and certain writers have been erased or ignored.
