A house in Wyndham was destroyed by fire after the occupant left the house with a heater on. A specialist fire investigator says an overnight house fire in Wyndham was caused by a heater being left on. Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesman Mau Barbara said firefighters were called to the house on Cardigan Rd about 2.40am on Thursday. The fire was earlier thought to be suspicious, but Invercargill specialist fire investigator Murray Milne-Maresca said it was caused by a heater, which had previously malfunctioned. A company spokesman confirmed a male worker was living alone in the house and he believed the house was insured.
