A group of young sailors is getting the chance to rub shoulders with some of the best sailors New Zealand has produced. Sir Russell Coutts will hold a youth sailing clinic at the Wanaka Yacht Club tomorrow, joined by his former Team New Zealand teammates and Wanaka residents Barry McKay and Hamish Pepper. Sir Russell, a five-times America’s Cup winner, is bringing his O’Pen Bic youth sailing programme to Wanaka for the first time. The last time the three men were together was when they sailed for Team New Zealand in the 2000 America’s Cup. Club youth sailing co-ordinator Ben Fahey said the Wanaka Yacht Club was committed to becoming a centre of excellence for youth sailing in the South Island.
