World War II explosive dug up, destroyed near Wellington

Army demolition of World War II ammunition previously found at QE II Park. A person with a metal detector has unearthed an explosive relic of World War II in a park north of Wellington. The New Zealand Defence Force said the fuse from a "WWII-era projectile" was found buried at Queen Elizabeth II park in Kāpiti on Sunday. The person who found it, using a metal detector, dug it up and moved it to where the Defence Force explosive Ordnance Disposal Team was able to identify it. The seaside park was the site of a United States military camp and training area during WWII, and several explosive devices had previously been found there.
