Bud Harrelson, shortstop of the World Series champion 1969 and 1973 New York Mets, has reportedly died at the age of 79. Harrelson briefly served as a manager of the Mets, and as a coach for a short time after his retirement from his playing career. The New York Times reports on his passing…An outstanding fielder, he helped the team win the 1969 and 1973 World Series and stayed with the Mets as a coach and, briefly, manager. Harrelson was signed by the Mets in June 1963, after starring at shortstop with San Francisco State University. He was remembered especially for a chaotic scene at Shea Stadium in Queens during Game 3 of the 1973 National League Championship Series between the Mets and the Cincinnati Reds.
