World Pride: 50 years after the Stonewall Riots

On June 28, 1969, the New York City police conducted an extensive raid on Stonewall Inn, a popular gay bar in the city’s Greenwich village. Police raids on homosexual bars was a common occurrence in those days. Over 200 people were in the bar that night. June is celebrated as the ‘pride’ month around the globe ever since. As 2019 marks the 50th anniversary of the iconic protests, people from around the world gathered in New York to celebrate queer pride and LGBTQI+ rights on June 28 and 29, in what was one of the biggest pride marches around the world.
