If you were thinking Featherston was just another little country town in the Wairarapa, think again: it’s officially a Booktown. It’s a distinction that the town is celebrating from May 6 to 9 this year with a Karukatea Festival, offering 55 events. SUPPLIED/PETE MONK As well as an annual book festival, Featherston is also home to seven varied bookshops. You can see it, the only one left in the world and meticulously restored, in the town’s Fell Locomotive Museum. BEST TIME TO GOThe festival would be fun, but the books and cheese are always there.
