By James T. BrooksMONROVIA – In a significant step toward national resilience, the Government of Liberia officially launched its “Preparedness Plan for Food and Nutrition Security Crises” on April 8, 2026, at the Monrovia City Hall. The primary objective of the Preparedness Plan is to transition Liberia from a reactive, fragmented approach to crisis management toward a predictable and coordinated response. The World Bank’s Crisis Response Window – Early Response Financing (CRW-ERF) specifically requires countries to have a credible, operational preparedness plan in place to access funds. By finalizing this document, Liberia has significantly strengthened its ability to mobilize international capital rapidly should a global food shock intensify. The World Bank emphasized that the Preparedness Plan is intended to be a “living operational instrument” rather than a document that sits on a shelf.
