Works to address oil spill contamination at King House continue

Works by a specialist contractor to address the kerosene contamination on the grounds of Boyle’s King House following a major spill in November are continuing. The oil spill, following a criminal incident, has led to the continued closure of the historic building and the library until further notice. Responding to queries from the Herald, a council spokesperson confirmed that remediation works at King House are ongoing. The spokesperson outlined that a specialist remediation contractor had been engaged to carry out site investigations and to develop and implement a phased remediation programme, in line with environmental and heritage requirements. “Any works within the curtilage of King House are being progressed with the necessary archaeological oversight and consents in place,” said the council.
